Understand symptoms, airway evaluation, and your next clinical conversation.

Aria - TBM Pathway helps visitors learn about tracheobronchomalacia and excessive dynamic airway collapse, organize non-identifying symptom information, and prepare for discussions with licensed healthcare professionals.

TBM & ECAC education

What is tracheobronchomalacia?

Tracheobronchomalacia (TBM) involves weakness of the supporting airway wall and abnormal expiratory narrowing of the trachea, main bronchi, or both. Excessive dynamic airway collapse (EDAC) is a related but distinct pattern of expiratory central-airway narrowing.

Symptoms can include chronic cough, difficulty clearing secretions, recurrent respiratory infections, shortness of breath, noisy breathing, and exercise limitation. These symptoms overlap with many other conditions and require individualized clinical evaluation.

Symptoms are not specific

Asthma, COPD, reflux, upper-airway disorders, infection, cardiac disease, and other causes may produce similar symptoms or coexist with central-airway collapse.

Specialized assessment may be needed

Dynamic expiratory CT and dynamic bronchoscopy evaluate airway behavior differently from routine chest imaging, but clinicians decide when those tests are appropriate.

A better clinical conversation

Organizing symptom timing, triggers, prior diagnoses, treatment response, prior testing, and functional impact can help make an appointment more productive.
